Talented. Confident (some would say cocky). In your face, over the top show offs.
ROCKERS! Welcome to the world of HIGHWIRE
The band is Buffalo’s premier hard rock band and one of Buffalo’s most popular bands, period.
Since the band was formed, we’ve been the best at what we do... HighWire have received many trophies from the Buffalo Music Awards. We have been awarded for Best Hard Rock Band, Best Lead Vocalist and Best Hard Rock Guitarist over the years. Kevin has won so many awards (an unprecedented 4 in a row!) that he was nominated to The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.
Originally a cover band, members involved Rick Reczek (Vocals), Kevin Blakita (Guitar),Kenny Brown (Bass) and Timmy Mahar (Drums). After a quick line up change they added Mike Lewandowski on drums and quickly developed into one of the top drawing bands on the Buffalo club scene.
The line up changed again before settling in on the recording line up which added Leo Gastle on drums. This was HIGHWIRES most reconized line up.
The four of us quickly became the go-to guys to open for national acts doing club shows. HIGHWIRE has supported a virtual who’s who list of classic/80’s rock artists, including Sebastion Bach, Zakk Wylde, Dokken, Jackyl, Slaughter, Ratt, Quiet Riot, LA Guns, CC DeVille, Michael Sweet, and Saigon Kick, to name a few.
HIGHWIRE released their debut CD Seeing Is Believing in November 2001 to enthusiastic reviews and strong sales. In January 2002 the band signed an international distribution deal with Metal Mayhem Music. We sold quite a few units and received reviews, airplay and emails from all over the world. Most notably Japan and Germany.
Budweiser and The Guitar Center signed on as regional sponsors, and Kevin signed an endorsement deal with Dean Markley Strings.
Our sophomore release, titled HighWire II - Breaking Out was released in January 2003, and had no problems selling out it's original pressing. This new CD is leaps and bounds above Seeing Is Believing. It shows the evolution of the band’s writing, and their growth as a band. There are several radio friendly tracks on it that would fit in well with several formats. The feed back on Seeing Is Believing was that while it wasn’t perfect, it had some “charm” to it, and showed the band’s potential. HighWire II Breaking Out delivers all the way around.
It was about this time that Phil Cerrillo had stepped in to take the place of Leo Gastle. Shortly after Phil Cerrillo had joined, the band's live shows had turned into events... attendance figures had more than doubled, The club owners were loving it!
Unfortunately, while creating the third HighWire album, the band fell on some very hard times and was forced to take a break for a few years.
But now the band is getting back together to finish what was started. Although the line up has changed, the music and attitude has not. Kevin and Rick have invited Mark Gardner (Drums) and Rory Lonesky (Bass) to join them and complete this project.
Remember the days when every night was a party? When the rock was fun and the fun was just insane? Those days are back with HIGH WIRE... the highest, fastest, loudest and hardest... Buffalo’s Best is Ready to Break Out again. Stay tuned for what is about to begin all over again.............................................
